The first I ever heard of Elvis Costello was in "Austin Powers". As a kid, I kind of hated him and found him really irritating.
But, as a teenager, I actually appreciate him alot more.
Most of the songs are pretty happy and upbeat, and have a good momentum to them. I can see why they are considered classics. Costello doesn't have quite as much as a voice as I anticipated for, but I feel that just having a generic voice makes it sound alot more....comfortable.
But he should stop the "Buddy Holly" look.

This Album is different in Raekwon's in the sense that Biggie seems to be aggressively targeting someone. The Album descriptively puts you into the West Coast vs East Coast war of America.
And Biggie is pissed.
Anyways, wonderful album, very descriptive lyrics,
Perfect to make you feel like a badass.
And feel black.

Jesus Christ.
The original Album is a compilation album, with over 300 minutes of country music by the same person. The album is split up into 4 quarters, for each decade of music he partook in in.
Luckily for me, The Rolling Stones didn't specify which decade, so I just listened to the first quarter, because I'd probably end up depressed if I had to listen to 6 hours of Merle Goddamn Haggard.
It was shit, as predicted.
The same old heartbreak songs about self-pity with a slide guitar. It was better than the other country albums in the sense that it felt way more tough than Bonnie Raitt and such, but it was still no excuse to include 27 songs mashed into a small quarter of a compilation album.
Don't listen to this album.

Please, Rolling Stone magazine, no more country.
After another unbearable country album, I've learned that the music I hate is the passion of others, and I should really tone down on the negative comments.
But I won't.
Seriously, the only reason this is getting any points is because of Conway Twitty.

This Album got progressively better until "Back in Our Minds".
This was supposed to be Funk, but ended up sounding more psychedelic than anything. Still, I was digging the rock presence to it, rather than the funk.
Here's what I want you to do: Listen to "Super Stupid". Right now. Stop whatever you're doing and listen to it. I'll be waiting.
Tell me that ISN'T Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix was dead by the release of the Album, so it couldn't have been him, but it sounds EXACTLY THE SAME. It's awesome.

Also, what kind of drug was the person who made the album cover on?

Pretty solid album, wicked beats. Compared to the Outkast album, its alot more aggressive, and features way more samples. I also enjoyed the gangster life more in this. I guess certain words are used more when you're black though.

Right off the bat, this album is sexual.
The entire album is about love and sex.
But its soo groovy with a side of funk.
"Devil's Pie" is quite the song. It's got perfect fluidity and momentum, I love it. The album itself gets a bit tiring, but still manages to give a good beat. The groove could kill a man, and impregnate a woman.
Stay away from this album if you value your virginity.
Also, don't listen to it with parents. It'll be weird. And awkward. And unwanted in general.

Now, before I leave you to gouge out my eardrums, let's do a review.
This album sucked ass. I'm pretty sure this is where all those country song stereotypes come from. Steve Earle manages to sing about Pickup Trucks, Beer, and all those other goodies in a single album. Plus, watching him perform live is like watching a southern and older Freddie Savage try and look cool.
I can tolerate some country, but not all. This is one of those examples.
I did, however, like the drums. Lots of country songs take percussion for granted, but Earle did something right, and made it one of the prime factors.
That could just be me trying to drown out the sound, though.

Holy Bass.
The bassline is each song is Godly. Everything else is tuned to be punk at its finest, but that bass would give a Flea shivers.
Overall good album. I have no idea what the singer is saying in each song, but a glance at some of the lyrics tells me that was for good measure. I was pretty indifferent about all of the songs, to be honest. Nothing was really good about them, but nothing was really bad. It's just something you can sit back in listen to, while doing something else.

This Album is the love child of Lou Reed and David Bowie.
The whole album is classified as "Glam Rock". It's seems promising at first, start up with yet another cover of "Sweet Jane" by The Velvet Underground. Awesome. But it slowly spirals out of control into a sea of boredom, getting worse and worse in each song. Repetition gets boring.
However,
I did like the effects they put in. The album tends to break the 4th wall more than once, which includes Studio chatter ("No, no, don't cut it, keep going"), and a phone call in the middle of a song.
Rad, but Bad.

This Album was...interesting.
I've heard some Pearl Jam, but nothing from this album. Pretty happy that I did. It's a good album, with it's weird flaws. I think they just like adding weird ass sounds to their songs just for the laughs. It still is pretty cool, especially when you hear what they are sounds of (Mental Patients, Antique Accordion, Etc.). The lyrics to alot of these weren't just deep, they were soul-cutting razors. Now that I sound like a 14 year old girl,
Pearl Jam is just kind of weird, and that can be taken good, and bad.
The sounds are cool and all, but is it REALLY adding good effects to the songs? "Bugs" is about a Bug Infestation, and wondering what he should do with all the bugs. The symbolism is Society, but still.
Don't do drugs.

Groovy.
This band has an inexplicably long name, but the amount of funk that managed to layer up in one album is through the roof. It's like the Jackson 5, but sane.
Too bad that they kind of suck. Otherwise, brilliancy.

If you are still feeling down after that, pause your Goth Music and listen to this.

I assumed I would give Cyndi a pretty low score, just based off of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", but after listening to her other songs on this Album, I actually kind of liked it. I really hate liking this, but it's damn catchy. She's like the Ke$ha of the 80's.
Her voice is so irritating. I hate it. It sounds like a snobby white girl who brags about shoes and money. But the songs are too goddamn catchy to just stop listening.

What the...?
Alright, I grew up with this kind of music. No problem. Some I loved, some I hated.
I don't know to feel about this kind.
Honestly, the whole album is just noise. So was Nirvana, and pretty much every grunge-like band, but this crosses the boundaries on what's music and what's just random note mashing. The sad part is,
I kind of like it.
Still, the album was a little hard to listen to. I feel like they would have been so much better to see live. Bands like these don't belong in studios. I wish I could have a taste for Husker Du's music, but, unfortunately, I suppose they are just too unique for me.
Or maybe they just suck.

Hardcore.
This Album was pretty much legendary compared to some of the other content I listened to. Kiss nailed it with this one. Something about the cockiness that portray within themselves makes the Album so much better. Plus, their ridiculous gimmicks just scream "Look, we're doing stuff and you're not." Except for that guy with the Star on his face.
What's his problem?
Anyways, wicked Album, just feels bland here and there. "Beth" was a ballad, so, that kind of killed the mood. In fact it all kind of got sissy near the end compared to the first bit. "Flaming Youth" sounds like they were all trying to steal the spotlight, but ended up failing miserably. It's a shame.
Nobody likes Stanley.

This is probably the hardest that Blues are going to get. That's pretty awesome. The album consists of slow but heavy Blues, until "La Grange" hits. I love "La Grange". It's one of those songs that you can walk down a hallway feeling like a badass to. Still, wasn't a big fan on the rest of the Blues, but I'm still glad that I got to hear it all.

Can I just say that I really love the Album Cover art?
When I first turned on this Album, I wasn't too enthralled about listening to more Blues. However, something about this...it just felt different. Maybe it was his voice. Whatever the case, I ended up really liking this album. It was chill and laid-back, but still had emotions there if you needed it. The song's timings were perfect. It ended beautifully on key, something that seems to be rare on this list. It just felt like it lacked a certain kind of energy.
Then again, it is blues.

Well, that was weird.
This was played in Clubs? Now I see how the 80's were so drug filled. This Album is just a tall glass of weird. I guess I'm too young to understand, or whatever old people say.
Still, New Wave may have rocked the 80's, but I walk out unscathed. The electronica element to this is pretty heavy, which is both good and bad. The singing is fine. Obviously, I've heard "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics, which I really liked, but this was a little bit too much much for my brain to handle. I guess I can see how people liked this, though.
Also, what's the deal with Annie Lennox?

Here's an Album that caught me a little off guard. When I saw the Cover, I thought it was going to be Jazz, or Blues. But when "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" popped on, I found myself plunged into a weird world of God knows what. Still, I found it all really catchy, and fun to listen to.
The lyrics were the best part, in all honesty. If it weren't for the instrumental piece of it, you would think this to be another Radiohead album. But the instrumentals is like the weird part of the 60's mixed with some Modest Mouse. I kind of liked it. Still, I've never understood the Noise genre, and "Reservations" and "I am Trying to Break your Heart" purely consisted of such. "Poor Places" was just creepy, with it's weird ass number stations. It was still pretty sweet, though, and added effect.
Good Album altogether, though.

This Album is layered with nostalgic feelings. It's only about 7 years old, but the feel that each song gives off is wicked. The power of the Synthesizer is not to be reckoned with, but these guys did it anyways, and they did it way too well.
However, each song's intro seemed to be lacking the 'Oomf', but that changed as each song progressed. "Kids" and "Time to Pretend" were the diamonds here, but the other songs were still awesome. Although these guys didn't necessarily pioneer that Electronic feel that you get in this album, they sure as hell laid out some ground rules for how to do it properly.

I don't know why this is classified as "Rock", its completely Country.
I really didn't like this album. I don't hate all country, just most of it. This falls into that category of bad. The Album feels like it should be played at a "Jay's Wild Wings Pub & Grill" kind of place. I'm not really into that kind of stuff. Still, it was pretty funny to look at all the sad rednecks commenting on the songs. Brought a smile to my face. Also, Bonnie Raitt plays some good guitar, and not once in the entire half hour did her voice annoy me. Her voice is nothing short of amazing, and her guitar skills are smashing, its just I really dont like this kind of music.

Honestly, when I looked at the cover, I thought that this would either be about some stuck-up dick, or a yodeler.
It was just really boring.
The album started off promising. "I'm Easy" was actually pretty upbeat. Sadly, as the Album went on, it got seemingly worse and worse. It got to a point where I was forcing myself to pay attention. Luckily, I got to a gem in the pile: "Loan me a Dime". It's way too long, but its worth about half of it. Also, the slide guitar was pretty cool. I wonder who did that?

Alright, before I set things straight: I've loved the White Stripes ever since I was a kid. I remember being in love with "The Hardest Button to Button". But I'll push my biasness aside for now.
This album has alot of mixed genre in here. You've got a prominent Garage Rock feel, with an Indie kick, and just a splash of blues. Its a nice feeling. The album as a whole feels messy, but kind of in a good way. Alot of emotions throughout each song, which is good. This album features "We're Going to be Friends", a hit with misunderstood teenage girls. Still, its a cute little song.
It's hard to find good Garage Rock, but Jack really killed it with "Fell in Love with a Girl". It's the kind of thing you want to rock out to. As with "Little Room", I dont know what the hell they were thinking. The drums were the worst part. Fuckin' Meg.
However, the rest of the Album was pretty solid, and a nice experimentation with rushing songs. Could use a bassline, but it's still fine without.

This genre of music is alot more in my comfort zone. The Stone Roses is one of those bands that was loaded with potential, but gave up way too early. This Album highlights a fantastic debut album. A DEBUT album. Their FIRST album is considered on of the greatest of all time. That's saying alot.
Anyways, pretty solid album, lots of a UK rock feeling in here. Figures. "Don't Stop" has a dreamy element to it, but I found that they probably could have executed it a little sharper. "I Am the Resurrection" is one long ass song, and just when you think it's over, another bridge sets in. Threw me off a few times.
Catchy Album, Strong lyrics, but you can tell that they were newcomers.

B.B. King recorded this Album in front of Vicious killers, criminals, and other baddies, and he managed to soothe them all with his touching music. If you don't think that's in the slightest way cool, get out of my face.
Anyways, B.B. truly demonstrated his power at guitar on this Album, which demonstrates that drummers have it tough when it comes to softer music like Blues and Jazz. B.B.'s singing ability really lets loose his soul, belting out his fresh lyrics. Sadly, after awhile, Blues gets a little bit repetitive, especially in this album. The guitar and singing all sounds the same after each song, but its the rhythm of it all that really keeps the beat going. B.B. was one cool cat.

Alright, this was first on the list, and yes, I completely stole that list from Wikipedia. Deal with it.
Anyways, Aquemini is one of those Rap Albums that screams "Hoodlum". That was probably the whitest thing I'll have to say. Outkast grasps all the concepts of Ghetto Rap and mashes it into a pretty dope Album. The songs itself are pretty hip-hop, but the lyrics combine satire with deep concepts. I was really digging the beat to "Return of the G", until Part 2 of "Da Art of Storytellin'" rolled into play. I swear I felt like stabbing someone and escaping cops after listening to this. Probably not the best for kids, but who doesn't want a gangster for a 6 year old? Anyways, decent Album, loved the radio effect to the Accapella "Nathaniel", and kind of wish that I appreciated Rap a little more to get into this kind of stuff.

Introduction

Hello Internet,

My name is Jacob, and I'm 15 at the time of this post. I've taken it upon myself to listen to all of The Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". That's right. Every single Album, Every single Artist, and every single song. If added up together through all the total album times, this will involve me listening to over 700 hours of music.

Oh.

So, I've decided to come up with a blog and write about my experiences through each album, listening to it all so you don't have to. On each post, I'll list what Album I've listened to, and by which artist. I will also give my every-so-useless opinion on such. I have no idea how long it'll take me, as there is no way in hell that I'm going to schedule 700 hours into my life. I'll try and nail it down to AT LEAST 1 Album daily, but you never know.

Anyways, to sum it all up:

-I will listen to all of this: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/500-greatest-albums-of-all-time-20120531
-I will post my thoughts on each Album
-I will post on here

Do with that as you will.
